Joakim Ingversen exhibits, as KIMPOP, his ceramic works at Clay Days

When Clay Days opens its doors on April 18-19, it will be with a familiar name in a new context. Joakim Ingversen, who many know from TV, is also a passionate ceramist, and under the brand name KIMPOP, he now invites the audience to get up close to his works when he exhibits at Clay Days.
Although ceramics are far from new to Joakim, this is the first time he has shown his works in a larger public context like this. It is a step that arouses both excitement and nervousness.
“It's super exciting, but I'm also really nervous. Just having to call it 'work' has been something I've had to get used to. It's something I've been doing in my own little world,” he says.
The decision to participate wasn't a difficult one, though. "It was a huge yes, thank you. If you had asked me a few years ago, I would have said no, but now I feel like I'm ready to show it."
Under the name KIMPOP he works in a playful and colorful universe, where classic turned forms meet more experimental expressions. In the early years he worked almost exclusively with vases, but today his work also moves into larger and more sculptural works, where he builds on the forms and explores new directions.
One of the works he is most looking forward to showing is a 120 cm tall, seated clown figure. A striking work that he expects will divide the waters. “It’s big and a bit wild, and maybe not for everyone. But that’s what art should be able to do.”
For Joakim Ingversen, ceramics has become an important space of freedom, a place where he can immerse himself and work creatively in a different way than in the rest of his working life. What began as a discipline and a desire to become more skilled has developed into a passion where the process and the material are at the center.
“I'm actually quite proud of what I've done, and I can vouch for my works,” he says, adding that meeting the audience will be one of the things he's most looking forward to: “I hope people can see that effort and thought have been put into it, and that they might be inspired or want to have some of it at home.”
Participating in Clay Days does not mark an end, but rather the beginning of a new chapter, where ceramics will continue to play a large part. “I love what I do, and I just want to keep evolving and making even wilder things.”
