Motorhome holiday with children? Here are the best games and activities
A motorhome trip with kids is a great way to create memories, but long drives and changing environments can also present challenges. Fortunately, there are many ways to keep kids entertained and active – both along the way and at the various stops.
Games and activities for the drive
Travel bingo
Make a bingo board with things you might find on the road – a red car, a bridge, a cow in a field, a sign with a camper. The first person to get a row full wins a small prize (maybe an extra snack or choosing the next stop).
Word chain games
Games like "I see something that starts with..." or word chains where one person says a word and the next person has to find a new word that starts with the last letter (e.g. car → lion → elephant), can provide long-term entertainment.
Audiobooks and podcasts
Take good children's books as audiobooks with you on your trip, or find exciting child-friendly podcasts. The series "The Ramajang Mystery" or "Snap Snap Snout" can be fun to listen to along the way.
The History Relay
A fun way to pass the time is to make a shared story where everyone takes turns adding a sentence. This can quickly turn into crazy and fun adventures!
Fun at stops and campsites
Movement during breaks
When you take a break, make sure to get out of the car and get moving. Bring a football, frisbee or a jump rope for quick games. If you take a break at a forest or beach, you can do a little treasure hunt or build sandcastles.
Treasure hunt in nature
Make a list of things the children need to find in nature: a pine cone, a stone with a special shape, a feather, a red leaf, etc. They can take pictures of the things or collect them in a small box.
The night's star race
If you are camping somewhere with darkness at night, you can do a little treasure hunt with flashlights or look at the stars and try to find constellations.
Cycling and hiking
Do you have bikes with you? Then go explore the surrounding area. Many campsites are close to beautiful cycling routes. You can also take a short hike with a fun mission, for example. to find the tallest tree, the funniest stone or the most beautiful leaf.
Entertainment in the motorhome
Draw and write diary
Give the children a small book where they can draw or write about their experiences each day. They can also stick tickets, magazines or small souvenirs in.
Creative suitcase
Make a small box with crayons, paper, stickers, and maybe modeling clay. It gives you the opportunity to be creative on rainy days or quiet evenings.
Board games and card games
Bring small games that don't take up too much space. UNO, Yatzy, Blackjack or a good game of card games like Fisk or 500 can be perfect for cozy evenings.
Cooking with the kids
Let the kids help with the cooking – maybe they can help make pancakes on a campfire, roast marshmallows or make their own sandwiches. It makes mealtimes more fun!
Children as little adventure planners
Give the kids a little task of choosing a stop on the trip. Let them look at a map or travel guide and choose an attraction they would like to see. This will make them more engaged in the trip!
And maybe the next stop is already set: Remember to mark your calendar for the Autocamper Show, where we will unleash your dreams and offer plenty of inspiration for adventurers big and small. See you on October 31st to November 2nd, 2025!
